𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀:
Was there on Saturday to give a report on the game Here's what he made of Saturday's Wearside League Second Division clash between @fc_jarrow: and @PoltonAfc: where goals from Liam O'Mahoney (x3), Reece Breslin, Jack Randall and Marcellus Kerr helped Polton to a 1-6 win Although the Wearside League website said 14:00 kick-off, I had noticed Polton made an event on their Facebook page and the event start time was 13:00. So I set off with the intention of getting there at 13:00. A broken-down bus in Whitburn meant I missed the first few minutes, and by that time, Simonside were one-nil up! Bents Park is just a big grassed area right on the seafront in South Shields. There are numerous pitches with paths by their sides, and this game was played on the most south-westerly of the pitches. You’ve got a good view out to sea from the pitch, but other than that, it’s just a pitch. Plenty of people walk by with it being in a very popular spot. To the game, and as I said, I missed the first goal. It must have been scored within the opening five minutes and was scored by Simonside, but that’s about all I know. Having presumably started well, Simonside kept the good start going. They created another good chance just before the quarter of an hour mark, but a shot from 20 yards was narrowly too high. However, two minutes later, at the other end, Polton equalised. An attack down the right saw a cross be whipped into the penalty area. It was flicked on to find a Polton man totally unmarked at the back post, and he took a touch before drilling a half volley high into the net. Looking to regain his side’s lead, a Simonside man tried his luck with a very ambitious effort. From just inside the Polton half, having spotted the ‘keeper off his line, he tried his luck. His shot bounced six yards out, and it went just over. 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹, and with 25 minutes played, they took the lead. This time it came from an attack down the left, and their man cut in to beat his man before curling an effort into the far corner. As the first half wore on, Polton was continuing to create chances, but most of them failed to find the target. Not too long before the break, things became heated with a few disagreements, but not a great deal actually happened despite plenty of verbals. Polton had a few more chances towards the end of the half, and these chances did force saves from the Simonside ‘keeper, but he was able to save all of them. Half-time was spent making sure they didn’t get fined by the parking warden for Polton, and Simonside kicked off the second half with 10 men as a substitute wasn’t quite ready to come on. He came on within 30 seconds of the restart, but even before then, Polton had a good chance. They worked the ball into their forward well, but a good save from the Simonside ‘keeper kept the visitors at bay. Once the second half found a rhythm, 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟱𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿. Eight minutes later, it was one-four. This time it came courtesy of a lovely 25-yard strike. It was almost five a minute later, but a good save from the Simonside ‘keeper denied the visitors. In the 78th minute, in a rare second-half chance, Simonside went close. Their man did well to beat a couple of Polton players in a wide position on the left, and he did equally well to get a shot away. It was a delicate chipped effort that had the ‘keeper beaten, but it bounced off the underside of the crossbar before hitting the line and being put behind for a corner. The resulting corner found an unmarked Simonside man at the back post, but his bicycle kick was wide. With less than three minutes to play, 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗵. 𝗜𝗯𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗯𝗱𝘂𝘂𝗮𝗵𝗶 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹. Fifty seconds later, Polton scored their sixth and last goal. A ball through the middle cut Simonside open and played in 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 ‘𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. Full-time: Simonside 1-6 Polton
